Reality Check

It’s official – life has returned back to normal. It’s the Monday after New Years and my office has re-opened after an 11 day holiday recess. But to be honest, I’m glad to be back. Not just because I like my job but because, deep down, I really am a man of routine. I like to follow patterns in life and all that time off was wreaking havoc on my body.

Plus, looking back I realize that my little holiday was much busier than I expected it to be. I spent 3 days around Christmas on Cape Cod, 2 days mid-week in Manhattan, one night in the suburbs with friends on New Years Eve, And during the remaining time in the city, I hosted guests for 2 nights and met up with various friends for lunch, dinner or movies every day.

And, though I’m exhausted today, all of that love and human contact has made me realize how lucky I am. And it’s already making 2005 a better year than 2004.

On a side note (going back to my problem of being easily distracted, as discussed yesterday), as I’m tryping this blog I’m wondering why some yogurts (Stonyfield Farms) are so much chunkier than others (Yoplait)?

Well the answer seems to be self evident as per their advertising gimmick; Yoplait bills itself as being sooooooo smooth and sooooo creamy and soooooooo smug. Wait. They don’t bill themselves as smug, it just works out that way.

And the Gillette thing; forgive me because this sounds so idiotic, but even the name Gillette sounds French-ish. And I agree with you that there is international commerce; the name may sound quite friendly to a French Speaking population. Further, if the name grabs their attention and there is text en francais on the package, is it not automatically a more appealing item? I think it’s smart. And there are probably some who perceive anything with French directions as upwardly mobile so the product might appeal to them as well.

    But what do I know?

Just as a side note — Gilette is actually of Germanic descent —the William Gilette is related to my family ( Granted via a long chain of family tree..something like great great great great cousin twice removed or some such thing)) And we are 100 percent German(without any of the GIlette money<sigh>).

Reality is harsh – 1st time in a week I’m back in the office and I’m already like “get me back out of here!”

Best yogurt I know is the kind they serve for breakfast in Greece–thick, smooth, incredibly rich. You swirl honey into it and it’s just heaven. Nothing I’ve ever had in the US comes close.

your freedom is your prison, mr man of routine. color outside the box, mix ‘it’ up sometimes, break your own rules, etc etc. its only when youre challenged that your mind will be opened.
