Hang On, Folks – You’re in For a Bumpy Ride

I did it! Yesterday was my first flight in 8 years and, to be quite honest, I don’t know what I was worried about. Though, I’m sure the 4 Ativan I took in advance of the trip helped immensely. Especially considering the following:

1 – the flight was delayed an hour

2 – the flight was stuck on the runway in queue for another 20 minutes

3 – the flight was VERY turbulent. So turbulent, in fact, that the flight attendant (there was only one) was not allowed to serve us. He had to remain seated the entire time.

Fortunately, there was a woman (college age) sitting next to me who was even more frightened than I was. It made me feel better – especially after a particularly startling jolt when I leaned over to her and asked if she was okay. ME! I was trying to comfort another passenger! I would never have seen that coming in a million years. It’s supposed to be the other way around.

Anyway, last time upon arrival Chris met me at the airport and we took the subway (clean, carpeted, quiet – Boston, take a tip) to his townhouse. From there, we went to a great litle restaraunt in his up-and-coming neighborhood, U-Street. Loads of new shops and housing being built. After dinner, he gave me the grand driving tour of the DC area (the Capitol, Lincoln Monument, the Mall, etc…) The drive was just a precursor of what’s to come. He’s going to show me around in detail (on foot) over the next few days.

Oh, and Will (of DesignerBlog), he has all intentions of bringing me to that nastiest of nasty places you described in your comment the other day. I think I’ll bring a can of Lysol and spray myself down when I leave. oy vey
