Transitions.
Well, it happened today. In addition to the heavy bands of rain, the projected 40+ mile per hour winds and the temperatures hovering in the 40’s, I tackled a significant life transition this morning:
I went from being a man in his early-30’s to a man in his mid-30’s. And all it took for this milestone was for the clock to strike midnight. Yep, I’m now 34.
Though, to be honest, age has never really bothered me. It still doesn’t. And fortunately, most on-line surveys start the numerical transition at 35 (for example, 18-34, 35-49, 50-59). So, in that respect, I still get to use the “younger” check-box. Besides, I actually feel better about myself now than I ever had in the past (mentally, emotionally and physically).
But there was one thing I did miss this morning (and I’m not trying to get all sappy here) and that was waking up next to somebody. For the past 10 years it was great to have Matt wake me up and say “Happy Birthday, baby!” and then find cards taped to bathroom mirrors or gifts on the kitchen counter. This morning I just woke up and stared at the alarm clock while listening to the rain dripping outside.
But I’m not complaining. That was just one thing I miss. Otherwise, I’ve got friends planning to take me to lunch today. I’ve got Rich and other friends taking me to dinner this evening, and I’ve got other friends planning on taking me to dinner on other days. I’ve also received a bunch of e-cards (and some paper cards). And, overall, feel well-loved by the people I surround myself with.
Life is good…despite the nor’easter doing it’s best to dampen (literally) my birthday.
