Connect the Dots
I’m always fascinated by how connections are made. Often times, it’s all about being in the right place at the right time (such as the kidnapping rescue I referenced yesterday). But there are also negative examples of this: the wrong place at the wrong time. Off the top of my head I can cite a dear friend who had a man come into her life at perhaps the lowest point of her life (I suspect their unhealthy relationship wouldn’t have developed if she hadn’t been so vulnerable at the time).
But after yesterday’s depressing blog posting, I wanted this one to be happy, dammit. So I’m changing focus now!
What I’m getting at is that this blog has also helped me connect with people. It’s got me in more frequent contact with a childhood friend (hey, Karyn!) who then also created a blog. It’s also helped me make new friends that go beyond the cyber world into real-life get-togethers (hey, Will!).
I’ve even had pseudo-connections of the “Six-Degrees-of-Separation” type with two participants of a reality show. We’ve never met in person, but the blog comments soon turned into regular emails.
And just this Monday a person commented on my blog about the game (Flinch) that I had just played the weekend before. Once again, I guess it all has to do with timing. I mean, Flinch isn’t exactly a common thing to write about. But he was directed (through another blog) to my blog on the specific day that I wrote about something we have in common. Of course, I then emailed him (and he emailed me back) and a new connection is made. All over a card game called Flinch!
How do those lyrics go from that 90’s Elastica song? “I don’t understand how the last card is played, but somehow the vital connection is made.”

Nice use of Elastica! I’m very pleased to make your acquaintance. 🙂
Wow — I never knew Elastica could be utilized to illustrate a point of such depth. Yeah, it is amazing how we connect with others — is it chance or destiny or that whole 6 degrees pop view? In the end, I guess it doesn’t matter. The key is to connect.
i don’t know from Elastica, but sheesh am I flattered to be included in your blog. 🙂 Ahm blushin’.
