Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places
I’m perplexed. I read somewhere locally that Boston was FINALLY getting that new gay cable station called LoGo. The network began in June or July yet, inexplicably, the Boston market was not included (which is odd considering Massachusetts has some of the highest percentages of gays/lesbians in the country…and not to mention that whole little gay marriage thing first took place here).
Anyway, I heard in late July (probably based on countless calls and emails from customers…including myself) that Boston would be getting LoGo effective August 1st. Last night I tried finding it and couldn’t see it anywhere. I have Comcast’s Digital Plus cable option so I should have it (if it exists here). I do get what feels like a million Christian and Catholic networks. But where’s my LoGo?
But during my LoGo search, I did stumble upon something horribly wonderful. Dating: On Demand. Yes, you can now post a personals ad on television. Perhaps this has existed for a long time, but I just found it last night. Basically, men and women record 2-5 minute videos of themselves talking about…well…themselves. It’s so painful to watch that it may become my new addiction.
Though, just like with my lack of LoGo – Comcast appears to be anti-gay yet again. It doesn’t appear to give you the option of searching for gay and lesbian dates.

Eek. I am always surprised to find new ways people and organizations are being discriminatory and think about how frustrating that must be to the gay / lesbian population. Is it even possible that gay personal ads are allowed but people are reluctant to put themselves out there like that, anticipating retribution or further discrimination in this mortifyingly homophobic society? Trust me, DATING ON DEMAND has GOT to be better than Logo. We get it. I’ve watched it several times with Alan. I’m sorry, but Lifetime and Showtime are MUCH more gay. Sure, LOGO shows gay movies, but they edit them. And, thus far the original TV shows are just so lame. I cringed as I watch Scott Thompson host this insipid gay marriage reality show. UGH! …they even edit more out of Grahm Norton than BBC America. …I mean, what’s the point? The only cool things I’ve noted are the cool vid-clips they do air. I had never seen a LeTigre video prior to LOGO. And, it is cool to note which companies advertise on the network. ….and which are absent. (clearing of throat) …however, I thought it was going to be like Turner Classics since Showtime/MTV own it. I didn’t realize it was “commercial” tv. beh.
Huh – I was told that Logo would be on starting August 1st. I even got a hold of the press release that made the announcement. I’m willing to bet that they would claim that there are “technical difficulties” preventing them from offering the channel at the moment. Here in Charter land we have the channel and I do watch it from time to time. The biggest problem I have with it is the fact that they play the same movies over and over. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen parts of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert now. Otherwise even though the programming isn’t knock-down super, it’s nice to know there’s a gay channel to watch when I want.
Comcast in the southern burbs doesn’t have it yet either. You can watch selections from the Here! network on pay per veiw but no Logo…
