It’s a Sunshine Day

There really isn’t much to report. I suppose no news is good news. My brother called me yesterday around 4:30 to tell me that my sister-in-law was re-admitted into the hospital yesterday afternoon. Once again, this means that my niece is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and my sister-in-law is in the regular building of the same hospital…but unable to see each other. Apparently, while this is all happening, my niece’s lungs started filling up with fluids again, but they can’t do much about it because to treat that, they’d need to disconnect other machines that are pumping air into her lungs. My brother said things are more critical now than ever.

So, he drove my healthy niece and nephew to Cape Cod last night so they could stay with my parents. Then he left immediately to come to Boston to take turns visiting my niece and my sister-in-law. I wasn’t able to visit last night (for the first time in quite a while) because I’m not permitted into the PICU unless accompanied by the patient’s parent. My sister-in-law was not in a state to accept visitors, either (because she was being moved into the room, etc…)

But, there was no new news this morning…and I take that as good news. I just keep waiting by the phone for that dreaded call. I suppose it’s rather fitting that it’s the first cloudy/gloomy day we’ve had in nearly a month. It fits my mood rather well. But I could really use the Brady Bunch kids singing “It’s a Sunshine Day” today. How happy I would be if the Brady Six just sauntered into my room lip-syncing their hit song while decked out in their polyster finest. Nothing says happy like synthetic fibers.

I always liked the song they did when Peter’s voice changed.

Ah, yes – Peter’s voice change song: “When it’s time to change, you’ve got to re-arrange, Who you are and what you’re going to be. sha na na na na na na na na…NA NA NA NAAAA NA.”

Yet one more reason you are special man. The Brady Bunch. What more is there to add really.
