Nothing Says Christmas….

….Like men running down the streets of Boston in Speedos.

I sure had a holiday filled weekend. Friday night was the annual holiday party at Harvard Law School. I dragged Randy along this year and the place was packed. I ended up staying much longer than I have at any previous party (well over two hours). Randy and I then went into Harvard Square to do a bit of Christmas shopping before heading back to his place for games with friends.

On Saturday we overslept and raced to the Back Bay to catch the annual Santa Speedo Run. Unfortunately, the runners started their thing earlier than the 1PM scheduled start time so we got there just as the last few stragglers were returning to Lir (the race begins and ends at a bar). So, no running shots this year…just stills of some of the crowd on the sidewalk.

Finally, on Sunday we went up to New Hampshire for a Yankee Swap* at one of Randy’s friend’s house. Actually, it was this beautiful New England farmhouse with attached barn, wide beam floors and at least 14 rooms (that I saw – I may have missed a few rooms). There were 15 people participating in the swap and I managed to be second from last (which is a good thing). I got to go home with an emormous box (nearly 12″x18″) of Lindt truffles. mmmmmm

And now I’ve got a 4 day work week ahead of me before our holiday recess begins (I won’t have to return to work for 11 days – until January 2nd). Of course, I’ll be blogging throughout that time – even as Randy and I venture up to Montreal for a few days. WOO HOO!

On that note, I’ll sign off for today with some more shots of the Santa Speedo Run. Enjoy!

*OK, so we’re in New England and it’s called a Yankee Swap. Did this practice originate here? Is it called the same thing in other parts of the country/world? Is it even done elsewhere?

Mmmm, always look forward to this tasty post each year. But, um, black socks with a speedo? Did he get a citation?? Should have. My vote goes to cute furry green guy. Though the last one does have a nice tuchus…

Montreal sounds perfect for the holidays! Ice sculptures and street revelry….ahhh.

And what the HELLLLL is a Yankee Swap? Like a random gift exchange or something?

Umm, any of them could fill my stocking anytime. (I can overlook the black socks.)

Just got back from Montreal myself. It was dirty and cold. Happy holidays!

I’m with Dave – green guy is the cutest. The first one looks like Jake Gyyllenhaal or however it’s spelled. Very fun – sounds like a happy holiday to me…

Thanks for at least getting some ladies in the photo this year. Cute ones too.

I’ve got to get into Boston to see that race one of these times – I’d love to see the race (well, the guys) up close.

It is called something else but it’s not the same vicious game where someone gets royally screwed and everyone else laughs at them. My last Yankee Swap I brought Vinny’s Tampon Pouch, which has picture of Vinny (a not terribly attractive guy) right on the front and yes, it says “Vinny’s Tampon Pouch” in big red letters all over it. I went to something in Utah they called a Yankee Swap but it wasn’t mean and everyone brought crappy, but well-meaning, gifts, except yours truly, and there’s no trading/stealing.
