All The News That’s Fit to Print
Is haiku news? Could it be? Because I’m proud to say that my haiku has been published in the most recent issue of “American Way” magazine. Granted, it’s the in-flight magazine for American Airlines, but that’s still kinda’ cool, no?
There was a contest last fall to win something like 1,000,000 frequent flyer miles and and 2,000,000 Hilton Honors points. All you had to do was submit a few photos, write a haiku, and answer ten travel-related trivia questions. Obviously, I lost on all accounts – but they did publish my haiku (along with a dozen or so others).
Though, now that Randy isn’t traveling, I have no way of obtaining a copy of my published masterpiece! It does appear in the online version of the magazine, but that doesn’t count. I’m published online (via this blog) every day. Print is different! Maybe I’ll need to fly somewhere this weekend just to grab an issue?
Oh, speaking of travel, it’s official: Randy and I are off to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, again. Our friends offered to let us stay at their condo and Randy and I bought one plane ticket and used frequent flyer miles for the second ticket. We’ll then split the cost of just one ticket and have a bargain trip. Though, before I get excited for this April trip I should probably focus on the more imminent Las Vegas trip in less than three weeks.

What – you’re going to keep us in suspense ABOUT the haiku? Not even a link to it?! Sheesh!
Heh he – while I’m complaining – can anything be done about the color scheme of the “Mail” box one has to fill out when commenting? It’s cream-colored, and the font is either white or pale gray – it’s COMPLETELY illegible onscreen, which makes it difficult to fill out…jes’ noting that – cool color scheme otherwise, but why all the little boxes can’t just be black for pragmatic reasons, OR the font change to black when the box is cream, is beyond me….

Fine – here’s the award-winning travel-oriented haiku:
Why limit yourself?
Humiliation worldwide
That should be your goal.
As for the background – very strange. On my computer the background is black and the letters I’m typing are in white (good contrast). I’ve got another ready who is currently unable to post comments. It’s as if things appear (and function) differently for individual people.
Well, I hope everybody can at least enjoy my haiku in this box. he he
FUN haiku, Karl! Thanks for posting it! In my browser, all of the boxes (including the comment one) are black with white type EXCEPT the one where one fills in one’s email address – the one that says “Mail (will not be published) (required), second one down after “Name (required).” It’s a MINOR annoyance, but I always assumed it was the graphic designer getting cute, in which case they should go all the way and make it both cute AND functional. Here endeth the rant!
We welcome your visit to Liberace’s FABULOUS museum. Please say hello when you are here! Rhinestones, beads, sequins, feathers and fur await!
