دربند از محبوب ترین جاذبه های گردشگری تهران در قسمت شمالی این شهر، در منطقه شمیرانات و شمال باغ سعد آباد واقع شده است، محدوده این محله به طور دقیق از جنوب به تجریش، از غرب به بازوی کوه البرز، از شرق به امامزاده قاسم و از شمال به کوه های البرز و پس قلعه می رسد. ارتفاع دربند 1700 متر بالاتر از سطح دریاست و اصلی ترین راه برای رسیدن به کوه های البرز مرکزی به شمار می آید، بسیاری از کوهنوردان و صخره نوردان این راه را برای صعود به کوه های البرز یا توچال انتخاب می کنند. دربند تهران سالیان سال است که وجود دارد و در گذشته مورد توجه بسیاری از پادشاهان وقت و محلی برای خوش گذرانی و تفریحات خصوصی آنان بوده است. قدمت دربند به حدود 200 سال پیش می رسد و باغ معروفی به نام شاطر در آن 100 سال قدمت دارد. گفته می شود در آن زمان دو نفر اهل طالقان به این محله کوچ کرده اند و باعث ایجاد و آبادی دربند زیبا شده اند. همچنین گفته شده در زمان قاجاریان محله دربند بیشتر از قبل مورد توجه قرار گرفت و در سال 1303 به دستور ناصرالدین شاه قاجار اولین ناهار خوری در محله دربند احداث شد که این تاثیر بسزایی در رونق گرفتن دربند داشته است. سال ها بعد محمد رضا شاه دستور داد تا در کنار رودخانه این محله یک مهمانخانه ساخته شود، ساخت آن از سال 1314 آغاز و تا سال 1317 ادامه داشت و در نهایت مهمانخانه ای با 50 اتاق و 2 سالن پذیرایی و ظرفیت 200 نفر مهمان، محل اقامت مهمانان ویژه و خارجی بوده و آبرومند ترین و لوکس ترین مهمانخانه تهران در آن زمان به شمار می رفته، بعد ها این مهمانخانه دیپلمات نام گرفت و همزمان با ساخت مهمانخانه، تعداد هشت ویلا نیز در اطراف آن به دستور رضا شاه احداث شد، در حال حاضر از آن ساختمان خبری نیست و چندین سال پیش به دلایلی تخریب شد.
