The Nose, She is Pointy

posted in The Kitchen Sink |

There’s a great article in today’s New York Times about Trader Joes.  There’s one in my neighborhood, but I haven’t been in months – the parking lot’s always crowded and it’s not on my way to or from anywhere.  Plus, as a very good friend of mine once pointed out, only “pointy-nosed white women” (remember – her words, not mine!) shop there.  =)

More importantly, Trader Joes doesn’t carry 8th Continent’s fat free vanilla soy milk, a staple in my diet.  They do carry fantastic chocolate covered soy beans, caramel rice snacks, and dried strawberries however.  Yummmm.

Wait – I think I feel my nose growing…I’ll be at TJ’s if anyone needs me…

In NorCal, cute boys shop at TJ’s too. Their frozen gnoochie is a great, easy to prepare, I had a long day at work meal. It’s vegetarian too, if you’re roommate still has any dietary restrictions.

I was just thinking the other day that I don’t know what I would eat if TJ’s didn’t exist. Maybe that makes me a pointy nosed white girl (I mean, I am white but I don’t think I have an especially pointy nose…). But seriously, such good selection of interesting, yummy, internationally influenced foods. And a good selection of organics and stuff for vegetarians (since I am an on-again-off-again one).

I sound like a TJ’s commercial…but when I go into a regular grocery store I don’t know what to buy.

How great does being a category leader sound though? Traveling the world looking for the best foods and then figuring out how to make them even better? Sign me up!

I really like the title of this post, and just realized that you could have said, “The skin, she is white.”
