Paging Hollywood

Kelly Faircloth has some really great ideas for Hollywood producers.  It’s time to broaden out the fairy-tale repertoire (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella) and revive some of the many other canonical tales.  My favorite of her proposals: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, with its clever slave-girl Morgiana.

  1. ‘The Fine Greenbird’ from Calvino’s Italian Folktales. The two brothers are brave but their sister is brave and smart. Plus it’s got the three wonders of the world — the dancing waters, the singing tree and the fine greenbird!

BTW Sun Yat Sen Library in Guangzhou might be the world’s only library with more English-language copies of ‘The Classic Fairy Tales’ than ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ 1-0, but for small things we are thankful. 🙂
