Kelly Faircloth has some really great ideas for Hollywood producers. It’s time to broaden out the fairy-tale repertoire (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella) and revive some of the many other canonical tales. My favorite of her proposals: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, with its clever slave-girl Morgiana.

‘The Fine Greenbird’ from Calvino’s Italian Folktales. The two brothers are brave but their sister is brave and smart. Plus it’s got the three wonders of the world — the dancing waters, the singing tree and the fine greenbird!
BTW Sun Yat Sen Library in Guangzhou might be the world’s only library with more English-language copies of ‘The Classic Fairy Tales’ than ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ 1-0, but for small things we are thankful. 🙂
