If the Model, View and Controller paradigm were applied to the digital documents industry, then weblogs, discussion boards, wikis are different views of the same model. The model is the central database from which all the date in the views can be extracted. But designing the schema and writing code which extracts the views is difficult in this case. So automatic interoperability is difficult to achieve. Humans are needed to read the views and interpret what they mean and write a more detailed paper or article or understand it for themselves. The is in the process of converting all the real world processes into digital processes. Innovative interfaces have been made in this process. For Eg: Real world discussions into online discussion boards, collaboration to wikis, seminars to blogs, etc. Applying the reasoning to AEC tools, is a central model (IFC) really required in the AEC industry?
