User Interface Patterns,

what are they. How do they fit in with Model-View-Controller paradigm of software architecture, information architecture and real architecture?

Microsofts pie

in the blogging arena is a little out of sync with the common mans needs. It is targeting corporate segment with collaboration tools. May be they should try the other way around, like IM. Get the masses first, then the companies. Or is it trying to piggyback the sharepoint server along with the IM package?

Image Context

Dave Winer clips a picture to have another meaningful image and links it to the original pic. It’s just like the news posts of a blog; clicking on the link give more information about the post. But, he is using another technique also on scripting, linking a picture to a google image search.
I’m not sure why I don’t like it, but let me try to explain. Well, people rarely link a word to google search, coz even I can google a word if I have a question about it. I expect the page to give me something new that I don’t know. Is that convincing enough, what do you feel about it?

Lluna

is a revolutionary Jabber Group chat client. It keeps track of the sites users are visiting and shows them on the sites. So you can meet people visiting the same sites as you are. And also it broke out of the typical windows interface and shows the picture of the person with a bubble chat window on the taskbar. One thing that has to be figured out is how to get user interactions with in the small space the avatar has.

Developing interactive systems

a PhD thesis by Hans de Graaff. “Interactive systems often get in the way of getting the job done, for instance by preventing the work being done in a particular order, or by simply not supporting all the aspects of our work. For example, I have been making changes to the draft text of this thesis using pen and paper first, as opposed to using my word processor, because the word processor does not facilitate the kind of notes and annotations needed to work through a draft. Also, the positive aspects of the chip-card are offset by the fact that transactions will be much harder to keep private.”

Well the answer to this problem is to have lots of tools and fit them into the process that suits us. Either a single software company needs to make all the tools, which is a slow top down process or open standards could be setup to facilitate interoperability and the tools can develop faster in a more bottom up approach.

All your base are belong to us,

see the video and read the story, Enjoy!!!! Thanks to Amit J. Patel‘s page for the link. He also links to Fortress of Infinitude. Also to Architecture astronauts, which says, having a higher abstraction of the world around us is a total waste of time. I totally disagree. I understand that he had to go to the other extreme to remove the hype surrounding the names.
