New race to get pings from users to create the “most recent blogs” list. Userland and blogger ping weblogs.com and blogger site when a blog is updated. Movable type users mostly ping weblogs.com. Blo.gs and blogrolling joined both the lists and had their own ping collectors. Now technorati started its own service. This list is very important to search engines, aggregators and any service based on blogs like alconsuming.net. It also acts as an authentication service for a blog
