Support the Citizenship Promotion Act of 2007

On Thursday April 19 and Friday April 20, we will be at a table in the Hark asking people to sign postcards to urge congresspeople to do anything they can to support The Citizenship Promotion Act of 2007. It is sponsored by a number of congresspeople including Senator Obama (D-Il.). This act, if timely adopted, will delay any increase in immigration fee-hikes until an analysis can show that such hikes are directly tied to improved services. It will also require that background checks be completed within 90 days or else be subject to congressional scutiny, and will provide increased funding for community organziations that educate and assist individuals in legal immigration. Further, it will require standardized administration of citizenship tests and require that individual circumstances including age and education level be taken into account. We encourage Alianza members to stop by and sign postcards, and/or volunteer to take shifts staffing the table.
