Chlamydia Symptoms in Women

Chlamydia is mainly caused by bacteria and is a sexually transmitted disease. Both men and women can be affected by Chlamydia through sexual contact with an infected person. Sexual contact with multiple partners also leads to Chlamydia. It can be passed during oral sex or vaginal sex. New born babies may also be affected with this infection if the mother is infected. Chlamydia symptoms in women are some times not noticed as the women do not display any of them. The infection first attacks the cervix and later the urethra. This sexually transmitted disease is caused by a bacterium named Chlamydia Trachomatis. When this infection spreads to upper genital tract, it causes pelvic inflammatory disease in women and at the same time epididymis (disease) in men. Chlamydia causes blindness, arthritis, conjunctivitis and also pneumonia in some people.

Symptoms may occur with in one to three weeks of exposure. Few of the early Chlamydia symptoms are burning sensation while urinating, abnormal discharge from vagina and dysuria. Some of the symptoms which are noticed later are fever, nausea, lower back pain, lower abdominal pain, pain during sex, inter-menstrual bleeding, infertility and also post coital bleeding. the infection should be properly diagnosed for better treatment and in right time. Men suffering from Chlamydia may observe discharge from the penis and burning sensation while urinating. Some men can even experience swelling in the testicles. If the woman participates in oral sex with an infected partner, the infection may spread even to throat.

Chlamydia symptoms in women need to be treated well in time to avoid serious complications and other related health problems. People are likely to develop various other diseases like HIV and syphilis. If the infected cells of cervix are not treated, the infection can spread even to uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and may even result in pelvic inflammatory disease. Chlamydia (mainly caused by chlamydia trachomatis) infection may affect the function of the sperm in men. If men are not treated well in time, may cause infection of the urethra, which is tube carrying urine from the body. It may even affect the tube that carries the sperm from the testis and finally resulting in fever, pain or infertility, in men. Doctors prescribe few antibiotics like a single dose of ofazithromycin or doxycycline for about a week for treating this infection. Erythromycin is the best antibiotic given for curing Chlamydia during pregnancy.

Follow these measures and tips for treating Chlamydia easily. You need to inform the doctor without making any delay. Follow the instructions and be sincere in taking the medicine at regular intervals advised by your doctor. Avoid sex during this period till the infection is completely cured. Teenagers and women are more prone to this infection because the cells form the inner lining of the cervix.
