- Carter Hall ’15 traveled to Sydney, Australia, to examine the city’s progressive sustainability initiatives.
- Kyun Saiidnia ’16 undertook an independent clinical at the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre in Sydney, Australia, researching a copyright case and developing materials about cyber safety.
- Sarah Weiner ’15 traveled to Metro Manila and Palawan, Philippines, to research the country’s legal strategies to promote climate change adaptation.
- Hyeongsu Park ’15 traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to research tax data disclosure policies.
- Kelvin Kesse ’15 traveled to Kema, Ghana, and conducted research for new legislation on human trafficking as part of an independent clinical placement with the Legal Resources Center.
- Lindsay Church ’16 traveled to Oxford, United Kingdom, to research international influences on Ethiopian freedom of expression.
- Paul Lee ’15 spent winter term in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, examining the regulation of securities and Islamic finance.

- Sima Atri ’15 traveled to Medellin, Colombia, to research workers’ rights and empowerment issues.
- Wossen Ayele ’16 traveled to Kigali and Lake Kivu (pictured), Rwanda, for an independent clinical placement at the Rwanda Development Board, where he prepared documents for investment negotiations for energy projects and helped to vet proposals from foreign investors.
During the 2015 winter term, 52 HLS students traveled to 26 countries conducting research for writing projects or undertaking independent clinicals, with support from the Winter Term International Travel Grant Program, which includes the Cravath International Fellowships, the Reginald F. Lewis Internships, the Mead Cross Cultural Stipends, the Andrew B. Steinberg Scholarships, and the Human Rights Program Grants. The following are snapshots of 12 student experiences.
