I probably haven’t looked at the full text of the oath in years but it was one of those random things I memorized when I worked on the Hill and it just sounded wrong the moment he said it. I felt sorry for Roberts. I think even he realized he forgot the word ‘faithfully’ and sort of threw it in at the end. Oh well, such is life.

The oath that Biden took was the military officer oath (found myself reciting it with him – old habits die hard):
“I ______ do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.”
President Obama’s oath was: “I _______ do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Obviously, Obama had the oath memorized; looked like Roberts did not. Funny on how everyone was focused on hearing Obama’s middle name said aloud – and it was almost lost in the fumbling.

What’s the 160 million dollar fuss all about? Politics is and always will be the systematic organization of hatreds. Isn’t it time we glean higher and set our sights on a new century without passports, visas and borders?
This land is NOT my land, this is Not your land, this land is Homeland – the very stuff Fatherlands and Motherlands are made of.
