A capella wonderful

Whatever else you’re doing, tune right now to WERS. If you’re not in Boston, here’s the online stream. The show is All Acapella, and it’s freaking amazing. There is so much outstanding a capella music being made right now, by college students alone. Stevie Wonder’s “As” is playing now, sung by the Stanford University Everyday People. Before that was “Some Kind Of Wonderful” by UMass Amherst Doo Wop Shop. Just great, great music and performances that are flat-out astonishing. Talk about good Web integration: here’s the current playlist

  1. In the olden days, everybody sang. You were expected to sing as well as talk. It was a mark of the cultured man to sing.

But few would want to hear me sing …

  2. My roommates in college were into this. I tried doing percussion one day for them when they were serenading some sorority on campus. it was pretty cool. I did a bad job, but the kids love it. And it’s fun for them to hear popular songs that way.

  3. Thanks, Doc. I’m in Beijing, China which is kind of far, but I’m listening now and I think I’ll come back to this frequency. It sounds like they’re playing Persian contemporary music now.

  4. Yes, Mauricio, WERS’ music programming is very eclectic. But it’s almost always Good Stuff.

  5. Very nice to see someone else feature a cappella music!

    Thank you.
