MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) — Bahrain’s king has appointed a woman believed to be the Arab world’s first Jewish ambassador as the country’s envoy to Washington.

Lawmaker Houda Nonoo said she was proud to serve
her country “first of all as a Bahraini,” adding she was not chosen for the post because of her religion.

“It is a great honor to have been appointed as the first female ambassador to the United States of America and I am looking forward to meeting this new challenge,” Nonoo told The Associated Press by telephone.

Bravo for Bahraini Houda NoNoo, but Alec Trebeck is calling – he wants to buy back a vowel.

I can see where you think this is funny, and maybe even wacky, especially after you have had a couple of beers and are rolling her name around on your tongue – but I would have thought that the woman, who is only 43, and a woman from a not very feminist country would deserve the tag “serious news” along with the humor and the wacky

  2. It is good news – hope they don’t go to far and start to use positive discrimination, which is just discrimination plain and simple.

I agree with the words that it is a great honor to have been appointed as the first female ambassador to the United States of America and I am looking forward to meeting this new challenge.
