Maura Marx

Maura Marx Director and Berkman Center Fellow
Maura is a Fellow at the Berkman Center and has been responsible for driving the agenda and community-building efforts of the Secretariat since its inception. Marx was Executive Director of the Open Knowledge Commons, an organization funded by the Sloan Foundation that helped lay the foundation for DPLA through advocacy and demonstration projects. Previously, she was responsible for starting the Boston Public Library’s Digital Services Program. Before coming to work in libraries, she lived and worked in Europe for organizations including the Guggenheim Museum (Salzburg), Warner Bros. Austria, and Amadeus, Inc. in strategic planning, technology planning, development and public relations. She received an MSLIS from Simmons College, an MA in Italian from Middlebury College, and a BA in German from the University of Notre Dame.

Rebekah Heacock

Rebekah Heacock Project Manager
Rebekah has contributed to a number of projects since joining the Berkman Center staff in 2010, including Internet Monitor, the OpenNet Initiative, Blogging Common, and the Center’s review of transparency and accountability in ICANN. Her work at the Center focuses on issues related to access to information, technology policy, and online freedom of expression. She has a Master’s degree in International Affairs from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, where she studied the role of digital communications technology in political and economic development, and a BA in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Kansas.

David O’Brien

David O'Brien Project Coordinator
David joined the Berkman Center staff as a project coordinator in February 2011. David has been contributing legal and policy research to a number of Berkman projects and publications since 2009, including the Citizen Media Law Project, Global Network Initiative, the Law Lab, and the ICANN Accountability and Transparency review process, among others. David holds a J.D. from Northeastern University and a B.S. in economics and business administration. While in law school, David held positions in the Copyright, Trademark, New Media & Entertainment department at Fish & Richardson, at Inverness Medical Innovations’ in-house legal department, and with the Hon. Judith Dein at the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

Kenny Whitebloom

Project Coordinator
Kenny is a project coordinator at the Berkman Center, where he works on the Digital Public Library of America planning initiative. Kenny contributes to research, coordinating efforts, and other programmatic work that helps to make a large-scale digital library free and open to all. He joined Berkman as a project coordinator in 2012 after having worked on the DPLA as a research assistant for a number of months. Kenny holds a Masters in Library and Information Science from Simmons College and a B.A. in History and Italian from Vassar College.

Carly Boxer

Research Assistant
Carly is a Research Assistant for the DPLA. Carly is pursuing a BA in Art History and Medieval Studies at Tufts University. She is currently working on a senior honors thesis comparing preservation standards for internet art with discussions of performance documentation from the 1960s. Carly’s interests include the digital humanities, the changing role of digital technology in fine art viewership, and architectural history.

Vicky Zeamer

Research Assistant
Vicky is a Research Assistant for the DPLA. Vicky is pursuing degrees in American Studies and Media Arts & Sciences at Wellesley College. This past summer, Vicky researched how non-fiction storytelling changed in terms of the creators, audience, medium, and effects as technology evolved for the Open Documentary Lab at MIT. She’s interested in how technology can be harnessed to make once hard to reach information and artifacts more accessible to a wider audience and the result of a more open access culture.

Ana Enriquez

Legal Research Assistant

Ana is a legal Research Assistant for the DPLA. Ana is pursuing a J.D. at UC Berkeley Law. She is interested in how law, especially copyright, can be used to further the goals of libraries and other educational institutions. During law school, she has worked for the Harvard Law School Library and the Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic. She holds an A.B. in history and literature from Harvard College.
