The Governance Workstream held its first workshop on February 15, 2012 at the National Archives in Washington, DC. The workshop focused on creating a set of open meetings guidelines for DPLA workshops and exploring analogous organizations and governance experiments across a variety of sectors. Workshop goals included:
- Review the research on open meetings and develop a set of proposed open meetings guidelines for DPLA workshops and Steering Committee meetings that can be submitted to the Steering Committee for approval and circulated to the other workstreams.
- Review the draft research memo on analogous models and suggest any changes to it before the research team at the DPLA Secretariat moves forward. Are there any other questions the Governance Workstream would like to see applied to the various models? Any other key organizations to consider? Attempt to narrow the list of organizations to the most applicable models in order to better target future research.
- In response to questions raised in other workstreams, hold a short, focused, moderated discussion of the DPLA’s key values and DPLA’s mission. The goal is to come to a consensus on a set of core DPLA values and definitions for how we use the terms in these values (“open,” “free to all,” etc.) to present to the Steering Committee for approval.
