Frederick A.O. Schwarz Legal Fellowship at NRDC (Washington, D.C. or New York, NY)

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is seeking a recent law school graduate to serve as the Frederick A.O. Schwarz Legal Fellow.  This two-year fellowship is available starting in September 2015. The Fellow will focus on litigation to redress environmental and public health harms, including air and water pollution, climate change, threats to endangered species, environmental injustice, and exposure to toxic chemicals.  The Fellow will represent NRDC and its members in federal or state court litigation, and may work closely with neighborhood associations, regional grassroots organizations, and environmental, labor, and public health groups.  This position will be based in either Washington, DC or New York, NY.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will have graduated from law school within the past three years.
  • Exceptional legal writing and analytical skills are required. Relevant litigation experience, such as a federal court clerkship, is preferred.
  • A demonstrated commitment to public service or public-interest lawyering; a capacity to work intensively and efficiently; an ability to understand and communicate complex scientific ideas; an affinity for creative, aggressive, and strategic advocacy; and
  • Strong interpersonal skills are all valued.
