The Fine Arts Library’s Digital Images and Slides Collection can provide copy photography by request for teaching and research. Materials including books, photographs, slides or transparencies can be digitized. Image subject matter should be related to the visual arts, archaeology, architecture, or material culture.

All materials digitized by request will also be made available online to the Harvard community.

All Harvard ID holders can request these materials. Faculty and classroom teaching requests are given first priority. No fees associated with this service.

To make a request, please fill out the Imaging Order Request Form (directions for the form) and bring it with the materials to be digitized to the Lamont Library West Door.

  • Drop off is available Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • At the Lamont Library West Door, please notify the guard that you are making a drop off for the Fine Arts Library digitization service.
  • Please follow instructions regarding safe distancing at Lamont.

Please allow at least 5 business days per 50 images.

Due to the pandemic, safety guidelines for handling library materials require quarantine periods between staff handoffs. As a result, turnaround time for orders will vary.
