“Police official Matthias Weber, Alsfeld: ‘The police didn’t fail at all. Quite the contrary. It was a massive show of force by the police on that very weekend that prevented a public broadcast of the concert’.”

“Police official Matthias Weber, Alsfeld: ‘Let’s say that you yourself, you personally, are having a birthday party, in private, and the police come and say, “We just want to see what’s happening at your party, we just want to have a detailed look at what’s going on here.” Legally speaking, it would be exactly the same thing.’
“(Reporter:) And so, undisturbed, the right-wing radicals go on bawling out the songs that incite to violence:
“(Images of the) Garde 18 (singing and screaming): ‘Hang a black pig in the synagogue, throw a hand grenade into the parliament. Blood has to flow in streams as thick as wooden clubs, and we sh – t on the “freedom” of this Jew republic.’
“(Reporter:) ‘Throw a hand grenade into the parliament.’ An unmistakable call for violence against the state, but our host Herr Koehler has some understanding for the hate that fills these songs.”

„Kriminaloberrat Matthias Weber, Polizeidirektion Alsfeld: ‚Stellen Sie sich vor, Sie machen eine private Geburtstagsfeier und die Polizei kommt zu Ihnen und möchte sagen: „Ich will einfach mal schauen, wie Sie Ihre Feier durchführen, mal kucken, wie das hier so im Einzelnen hier abläuft.“ Im Prinzip ist es die gleiche Rechtslage.’
Und so grölen die Rechtsradikalen ungestört ihre volksverhetzenden Lieder:
Garde 18: ‚In der Synagoge hängt ein schwarzes Schwein, in die Parlamente schmeißt die Handgranaten rein. Blut muss fließen knüppelhageldick, und wir scheißen auf die Freiheit dieser Judenrepublik.’
‚In die Parlamente schmeißt die Handgranaten rein.’ Eine klare Aufforderung zur Gewalt gegen den Staat. Gastgeber Köhler hat Verständnis für die Hass-Gesänge.“

“Police official Matthias Weber, Alsfeld: ‘Basically, the police have no legal handle when it’s a question of a private celebration in a room closed to the public. We cannot enter the premises.’
”Bertram Koehler: ‘What happens here is absolutely private. It’s a private event. And at every one of these events, there’s also always been the birthday of one or two guests to celebrate.
“(Reporter:) And the police aren’t invited to birthday parties.
“Society’s guardians stay outside. According to their understanding of the law, this private party has to be treated like any other.”

The police had heard about a skinhead meeting and closed off the whole village of Kirtorf as a preventive measure. They checked everyone’s papers, but at Koehler’s farm, the police don’t intervene.”

“(Reporter:) Here we are in Koehler’s pigsty, now converted into a party room for a ‘comradeship’ group called the ‘Berserkers’. The room has been soundproofed. No noise gets out.
“Bertram Koehler: ‘This is actually a party. A party, not a public event. So everything’s just for invited guests. They’re people that somebody knows from somewhere. Somebody knows one person, or two, and invites them and says, “Hey, I’m bringing ten more people.” That’s about how it works’.”

(Reporter:) And he’s got it right in the middle of the village of Kirtorf. The property of Bertram Koehler, a meeting place for right-wing extremists. On 3 July, around two hundred skinheads travelled here for a right-wing rock concert. They came from different parts of Germany, some of them from as far away as several hundred kilometers.”

Because he displayed a flag with a Nazi swastika on his property, he was taken to court and sentenced. Such a display is a punishable offense in Germany. As a result, he lost his job as cashier at the disco in Kirtorf. He blames the government for that.”

I was even a member of the German Communist Party once. Everybody who was in the Communist Party isn’t allowed to be a teacher or a church minister now or anything like that. Ich war früher sogar mal Mitglied in der DKP. Jeder, der Mitglied in der DKP war, durft’ kein Schullehrer werden oder kein Pfarrer werden oder sonst was. Eigentlich ist unsere Demokratie auch ne Diktatur’.”

“Bertram Koehler: ‘Yeah, well, that’s part of the skinhead scene. It’s just – what can I say? – it’s not possible for everything… I think those songs – I think a lot of songs aren’t very good. But that’s part of the scene, so that’s just what play’.”

„KONTRASTE: ‚Und wie finden Sie es, wenn bei Ihnen dann judenfeindliche Lieder gesungen werden?’
Bertram Köhler: ‚Ja, das gehört zu dem Skinhead-Sein irgendwo dazu. Das ist halt, wie soll man das jetzt sagen, man kann ja das nicht alles… Ich finde diese Lieder, also manche Lieder find ich echt selber nicht gut. Aber es gehört halt dazu und dann werden sie halt gespielt’.”
