Joseph Hémard (1880-1961) was a prolific French artist who, although best known for illustrating novels, lent his humorous touch to a number of unlikely texts. He published several editions of French codes of law with humorous illustrations, for example. His work is satirical, absurdist, and frequently erotic, which this work, La tentation de Saint Frusquin, demonstrates aptly.
