Update on Bilkis Case

January 29, 2004 | Comments Off on Update on Bilkis Case

In a follow up to the gang rape case, originating from the massacre of Muslims in Gujarat during spring 2002, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) secured another week of custody of the 12 accused.  One of the accused is the former BJP secretary from Dahod district:

The CBI told the court that during the initial five-day remand, potency tests were conducted on the accused, the results of which were positive.  Further remand was sought to conduct polygraphic test and narco-analysis of the accused. Also, some arms were to be recovered from the accused.

This case was previously taken up by the National Human Rights Commission in the Supreme Court.  The Supreme Court then asked the CBI to investigate the case because of the failure of local police to properly execute their duties.  Read earlier posts for more background to the case of Bilkis Bano and her family.
