Perpetrators of Sikh Pogroms still Possible Candidates for Upcoming Elections

The Congress Party’s central election committee is having trouble naming candidates for seven seats in Delhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.  The committee continues to be ruled by Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, despite their role in the 1984 pogroms against Sikhs.  According to Business Standard:

[T]he once-powerful Congress leaders of Delhi, like Jagdish Tytler who has lost all the elections he has contested in the last eight years and Sajjan Kumar who lost a lot of ground because of his alleged involvement in the anti-Sikh riots, continue to flex their muscle in their areas of influence. This is holding up a decision [by the election committee].

In the Delhi Sadar constituency, Tytler is still foremost on the list of candidates.  Sajjan Kumar has made a bid for the Outer Delhi seat.  Read the 1984 section of the blog for updates on the cases and Nanavati commission steps taken in regards to Tytler and Kumar, including affidavits by victims against Kumar (Misra Commission) and against both of them (Nanavati Commission).
