During a July 25 hearing on the Khalra muder case, Additional District Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh summoned Faridkot Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Singh to make a statement. Jaswant Singh Khalra was a human rights activist who was abducted from his home by the police in 1995. (For a full background, see the March 2005 Dispatch.)

Ravinder Singh was summoned to make a statement based on the statements of SPO Kuldeep Singh, the key witness in the Khalra case.

Kuldeep Singh later denied this statement, saying that the accused police officers intimidated him into giving a statement that he had been offered Rs 50,000 by Paramjit Kaur.

The next hearing for the case is August 10 and Ravinder Singh was will appear before the court on August 31.
