Vanessa Anne Hudgens was born on December 14, 1988 in Salinas, California to Gina and Greg Hudgens. Her heritage is a complicated one, with bits and pieces of Irish, Spanish, Chinese, Filipino and Native American in her blood.

Her acting career has been going on for a long time, although it is only relatively recently that she has become very famous for the work that she has done. She started acting in the mid 90s at the age of eight at which point she was working in musical theatre as a singer. She actually had roles in some of the most famous musicals that were put on production and from an early age got experience acting in some great roles. Amongst her early musical theatre performances were The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella and The King and I. Whether or not early acting in quality plays had any effect on her later success is open to debate, but it was certainly a good way to start.

The move to Los Angeles occurred shortly after her start in musical theatre as she was auditioned for a commercial role and ended up being selected for the part. At that point, the whole family moved from Salinas to Los Angeles, where they still reside to this day. In addition to her mother and father, Vanessa also has a sister Stella Hudgens who has also had experience in acting and lives in Los Angeles with the rest of the family. Stella Hudgens was born in 1995, making her seven years younger than Vanessa.

Right from the start it became clear that the trip to Los Angeles would be good for Hudgens as she started getting roles on a number of shoes. Quintuplets, Cover Me and Still Standing were examples of shows that she got roles on and she was able to cut her teeth on movies through playing characters in Thirteen and Thuderbirds.

While all of these were impressive accomplishments, they paled in comparison to what happened to her when she was able to score a role in Disney’s High School Musical. Playing Gabriella Montez, Hudgens catapulted herself to the top of the fan list of many teenagers and at the same time was able to make herself a household name in the United States through appealing to the teenage generation. Soundtracks, concerts, theme rides and books were created based on High School Musical and the success of all of these different product lines made Vanessa Hudgens an income of $2 million at the age of 18, making her number seven on Forbes list of earners under the age of 21.

In addition to her accomplishments with High School Musical, Vanessa has also worked as a singer with Hollywood Records, a label company that happens to be owned by Disney. Her first album “V” was released in 2006 and has had a positive reception in the marketplace, even earning her the award of Choice Breakout Singer at the Teen Choice Awards in 2007.
