A friend continued reading to us the document from last week:
“Follow-Up Question (reading from witness’ earlier sworn statement): ‘Maik Hauke and Sandro Richter held Joseph tight. I saw Maik Hauke hit Joseph on the ear, hard, at least twice, because he wanted Joseph to drink, and Joseph wouldn’t. Because Joseph didn’t want to drink, Maik Hauke gave him three or four shocks with the stun gun he got from Ronny Kunte, once on the neck, on the right ear, on the genitals, and on the lower right part of the stomach. They were holding Joseph tight.
“Answer: No, I never said anything like that. If Hauke had hit him, he would have been long gone. Hauke hit me once, and half my jaw was dislocated.”
A friend commented: “And if this boy had told the truth now, would Hauke have dislocated his jaw again?”
“Follow-Up Question (reading from witness’ earlier sworn statement): ‘Then Maik Hauke held Joseph tight and bent his head back. Sandro Richter held Joseph’s mouth open, and Ute Schneider poured the drink into his mouth. The whole group laughed. A tall skinhead verbally abused Joseph, saying, ‘Drop dead, you shit foreigner’.
“Answer: As a thirteen-year-old, I didn’t walk through that crowd and listen and watch. No, I never said that.”
My friend commented: “Again a strange way of expressing himself. ‘As a thirteen-year-old, I didn’t walk through that crowd and listen and watch.’ But what was happening that he could have walked through and listened and watched?”
“Follow-Up Question (reading from witness’ earlier sworn statement): ‘I was standing a few meters away, near the kiosk, diagonally opposite, where you can buy ice cream. From there I could easily see and hear everything.’
“Answer: No, you don’t have to read the rest. I didn’t say anything like that.”
Our friend again commented: “Don’t forget that I got this transcript from the parents themselves. If they had wanted to lie to me about their conversation with Alexander Paetzold, would they have given me this transcript, which contradicts their version of this conversation? Maybe you are capable of believing the parents would have done that, but I’m not.”
“Or there’s another possibility,” another friend said. “Maybe the parents were in despair, because no one would believe that they were right and that their child was murdered. So they collected real sworn statements from people. But then they thought that this proof would not be enough, and they started to produce other so-called sworn statements. The right-wing police in Saxony, under pressure from certain politicians, were able to convince all the witnesses – or intimidate them – that they should withdraw their statements, whether or not those statements were true.”

ein Bekannter hat uns das folgende Schreiben von letzter Woche weiter vorgelesen:
„Vorhalt: ‚Maik Hauke und Sandro Richter hielten Joseph fest. Ich habe gesehen, wie Maik Hauke Joseph mit der Faust hart aufs Ohr gehauen hat. Mindestens zweimal. Weil Joseph das Zeug trinken sollte und nicht wollte. Weil Joseph nicht trinken wollte, gab Maik Hauke Joseph mit einem Elektroschocker, den er von Ronny Kunte erhielt1 drei bis vier Elektroschläge. Einmal in den Nacken, auf das rechte Ohr, auf die Genitalien und in den rechten Unterbauch. Sie hielten Joseph dabei fest.’
Antwort: Nee, so etwas habe ich nie gesagt. Wenn Hauke zugehauen hätte, dann wär der schon lange weggewesen. Ich habe schon mal von dem Hauke eine abbekommen, da war mein halber Kiefer ausgerenkt.“
Mein Bekannter bemerkte: „Und wenn dieser Junge die Wahrheit jetzt gesagt hätte, hätte Hauke noch einmal sein halber Kiefer ausgerenkt?“
„Vorhalt: ‚Dann hat Maik Hauke Joseph festgehalten und den Kopf nach hinten gebogen. Sandro Richter hat Joseph den Mund autgehalten und Ute Schneider hat ihm das Zeug in den Mund gegossen. Die ganze Gruppe lachte. Ein größerer Glatzköpfiger beschimpfte Joseph mit „Du Scheißausländer krepiere’.
Antwort: Ich geh doch nicht, als l3jähriger, dort durch und horch dort zu und gucke dort zu. Nee, das habe ich nicht gesagt.“
Mein Bekannter bemerkte: „Noch einmal ein komischer Ausdrucksweise. ‚Ich geh doch nicht, als l3jähriger, dort durch und horch dort zu und gucke dort zu.’ Aber was ist passiert, wodurch er hätte gehen und horchen und gucken können?“
Vorhalt: ‚Ich stand einpaar Meter entfernt, bei der Bude schräg gegenüber, wo man Eis kaufen kann. Von dort konnte ich alles hören und gut sehen.’
Antwort: Nee, da brauchen Sie gar nicht weiterlesen, ich habe so was nicht gesagt.“
Unser Bekannter noch einmal bemerkte: „ ‚Ich achte doch auf so etwas nicht.’ Eine komische Ausdrucksweise. Jedenfalls, vergessen Sie nicht, dass ich dieses Protokoll von den Eltern selbst erhalten habe. Wenn die Eltern mich belügen wollten, in Bezug auf ihr Gespräch mit Alexander Pätzold, hätten sie mir dieses Protokoll gegeben, das ihrer Version von diesem Gespräch widerspricht? Vielleicht sind Sie imstande, zu glauben, die Eltern das getan hätten, aber ich nicht.“
„Oder es gibt eine andere Möglichkeit,“ sagte noch ein Bekannter. „Vielleicht waren die Eltern verzweifelt, weil niemand glauben würde, dass sie Recht hatten und dass ihr Kind ermordet wurde. Also haben sie echte eidesstattliche Versicherungen versammelt. Dann aber haben sie gedacht diese Beweise nicht reichen, und sie haben angefangen, andere so genannte eidesstattliche Versicherungen zu produzieren. Die rechtsgerichtete Polizei in Sachsen, unter Druck von bestimmten Politikern, konnte alle Zeugen davon überzeugen – oder einschüchtern – dass sie ihre Aussagen zurückziehen sollten, egal ob diese Aussagen echt waren, oder nicht.“

Sandro Richter said to Joseph, ‘Now we’re going to kill you, you shit foreigner!’ I can remember the following people standing around Thalheim’s kiosk: Ute Schneider, the heavy-set Frau Schuster, Monika Kunat, Maik Hauke, Sandro Richter, and about six or seven skinheads. I don’t remember any of the others who were standing there. They were all laughing out loud.

„Vorhalt: ‚Aber Maik Hauke ist hinterher, hat ihn geschnappt und ihm den Mund zugehalten. Maik Hauke und Sandro Richter haben Joseph, an seinen Armen, dann zu Thalheims geschleppt. Hauke hat ihm dabei den Mund zugehalten. Joseph weinte und versuchte sich zu wehren’.
Antwort: Vor allen Leuten schleppen die den dort lang, angeblich? Das habe ich nie gesagt.
Vorhalt: ‚Ich habe gesehen, wie Ute Schneider etwas in den Becher getan hat und das Ganze hin und her geschwenkt hat. Dabei hat sie gelacht. Sandro Richter sagte zu Joseph, „Jetzt bringen wir dich um du Scheißausländer“. Ich kann mich an folgende Personen erinnern, die bei Thalheims standen. Ute Schneider, die dicke Frau Schuster, Monika Kunat, Maik Hauke, Sandro Richter., ungefähr 6 bis 7 Glatzköpfe, an die Anderen die dort standen, erinnere ich mich nicht mehr. Alle lachten laut’.
Antwort: Nee, habe ich so nicht gesagt. Ich achte doch auf so etwas nicht.“

Ich habe dann vor dem Haus Fahrrad gefahren, bin dann hoch Abendbrot essen gegangen und bin dann auf den Balkon gegangen’.“

Antwort: Die Monika KUNAT und das Fräulein SCHLESINGER kenne ich überhaupt nicht. Das habe ich auch so nicht gesagt. Es ist richtig, dass der Maik HAUKE mit im Bad war. Bei dem Sandro RICHTER und der Ute SCHNEIDER bin ich mir nicht sicher, ob das an diesem Tag war. Die jüngere Schwester der Ute SCHNEIDER, mit dem roten Mal im Gesicht, kenne ich.

“Answer: Yes, that’s what I said. Danny was sitting with me near (Maik) Hauke – I just remembered that.

I was lying about one meter from Andreas Dittrich, who lives at Brauhaus 10, 01855 Sebnitz. I know Andreas Dittrich very well. Sagen Sie bitte, ob Sie diese Worte, so wie sie Ihnen jetzt vorgetragen werden, gesagt haben oder auch nicht: ‚Ich, Alexander PÄTZOLD war am 13.06.1997 ab ungefähr 14.00 Uhr bis ungefähr 19.00 Uhr im Dr. Petzold Schwimmbad mit Frau Daniela RICHTER, Danny genannt, ihrem Sohn David und meinem Freund Richard LANGE, wohnhaft Pirna (hat vorher in Dresden gewohnt)’.
Antwort: Das habe ich so gesagt. Die Danny saß mit beim HAUKE, das fällt mir jetzt wieder ein.
Vorhalt: ‚Ich lag gleich neben Frau Daniela RICHTER, die zusammen mit ihrem Sohn im Schwimmbad war. Ich lag ungefähr ein paar Meter von Andreas DITTRICH, wohnhaft Brauhaus 10, 01855 Sebnitz, entfernt. Ich kenne Andreas DITTRICH sehr gut. Unser Lagerungsort lag an der Ecke zum Rondell mit dem Sprudel an der so genannten tiefen Wasserseite.’
Antwort: Nee, das habe ich so nicht gesagt, weil ich gar nicht am Sprudel lag. Ich lag vorne am kleinen Schwimmbecken, wo die kleinen Kinder waren, weil alles Andere (sic) voll war.“
Unser Bekannter bemerkte, „Josephs Eltern darauf bestehen, dass dieser Junge, Alexander Paetzold, seine Aussage geändert hat, als er mit der Polizei sprach, und dass er ihnen tatsächlich alles sagte, wie es in der eidesstattlichen Versicherung steht.“

A friend continued reading to us the document from last week:
“In the photo you could in fact see that there were some abrasions in the area around the neck and on the chest there some kind of spots that certainly must have come from the resuscitation attempts….”
Our friend commented, “How would a relatively uneducated boy know something like that, or why would he say it, unless someone – the police themselves, for example, under instructions from those higher up – had put the words in his mouth?”
Of course it was a shock to someone like me that anyone could say something like that about the trustworthy police in eastern Germany, but our friend went on reading:
“…and at that point it was said (by the Kantelberg-Abdullas) that Maik Hauk was the one. As for the abrasions around the neck, they told me that the stun gun had done that. At the end of this conversation, Herr Kantelberg-Abdulla said to me, “Sign here,” and he covered the page with his hand so I couldn’t see what was written there. He put ninety marks on the table for me and said that I shouldn’t tell anyone.
Question: How many pages did you sign?
Answer: Four.
Question: Did Herr Kantelberg-Abdulla put his hand over all four pages?
Answer: He showed me the pages in a way that his hand lay on the first page and the other three pages were hidden underneath with only the lower edge sticking out, so that I could sign them. So I couldn’t see the text on the other three pages either. I asked him then if I could read everything that was on those pages, and Herr Kantelberg-Abdulla said that he had written down everything that I’d said. But I didn’t say that much, not enough to fill four pages. Then he said that it all was important and would be used in court. As for the ninety marks, Herr Kantelberg-Abdulla said that that was for my statement and I shouldn’t tell anyone about it. I was happy about the ninety marks and was allowed to leave the pharmacy. That was around 9:30 p.m., if I remember rightly.
Our friend again commented: “Don’t forget that I got this transcript from the parents themselves. If they had wanted to lie to me about their conversation with Alexander Paetzold, would they have given me this transcript, which contradicts their version of this conversation? Maybe you are capable of believing the parents would have done that, but I’m not.”

ein Bekannter hat uns das folgende Schreiben von letzter Woche weiter vorgelesen:
„Auf dem Foto war wohl zu sehen, dass er am Halsbereich irgendwelche Abschürfungen hatte und im Brustbereich waren irgendwelche Flecken zu sehen, die sicherlich vom Wiederbeleben stammen,….“
Unser Bekannter sagte, “Wie würde ein ziemlich ungebildeter Junge so etwas wissen können oder warum würde er es sagen, wenn irgendjemand – die Polizei selbst, zum Beispiel, auf Anweisungen von denen da oben – nicht es ihm in den Mund gelegt hätte?“
Natürlich war es für einen Menschen wie mich schockierend, dass irgendjemand so etwas über die vertrauenswürdige Polizei in den neuen Bundesländern sagen konnte, aber unser Bekannter fuhr fort, vorzulesen:
„…wobei mir gesagt worden ist, dass das der Maik HAUKE gewesen ist. Zu der Schürfwunde am Hals sagte man mir, dass das vom Elektroschocker gewesen wäre. Zum Ende dieses Gespräches sagte mir der Herr KANTELBERG-ABDULLA „hier unterschreibst du“ und deckte aber seine Hand auf das Blatt. so dass ich nicht sehen konnte was darauf stand. Er legte mir 90 Mark auf den Tisch und sagte, dass ich mit niemand darüber reden soll.
Frage: Wie viele Blätter haben Sie unterschrieben?
Antwort: Viere (sic).
Frage: Hat Herr KANTELBERG-ABDULLA auf alle vier Blätter seine hand gelegt?
Antwort: Er zeigte mir die Blätter so, dass er seine Hand nur auf das erste Blatt legte und die anderen drei Blätter lagen verdeckt darunter, wobei er nur jeweils den unteren Rand überlappt offengelassen hat, damit ich dort unterschreiben könne. Ich habe also den Text auf den anderen drei Blättern ebenfalls nicht sehen können. Ich fragte dann auch, ob ich das Alles lesen kann, was da steht und Herr KANTELBERG-ABDULLA sagte, dass er das aufgeschrieben hat, was ich gesagt habe. Ich habe aber gar nicht so viel gesagt, dass dort vier Blätter voll geschrieben werden könnten. Er sagte dann weiter, dass das Alles wichtig wäre und vor Gericht verwendet werden wird. Zu den 90 Mark sagte Herr KANTELBERG-ABDULLA, dass das für diese Aussage wäre und ich sollte zu niemanden etwas davon sagen. Ich habe mich dann über die 90 Mark gefreut und durfte die Apotheke wieder verlassen. Das war so gegen 21.30 Uhr, wenn ich mich recht erinnere.“

„Zuvor haben wir nichts Außergewöhnliches festgestellt. So habe ich das auch Frau und Herrn KANTELBERG-ABDULLA erzählt. Man gab mir aber zur Antwort, dass ich das ganz genau wüsste, was dort los gewesen ist und man schrieb weiter an diesem Protokoll. Ich wurde auch gefragt, ob ich genau wüsste, wie der Maik HAUKE auf dem Joseph drauf herumgesprungen ist und da habe ich geantwortet, dass ich mit dem Maik essen war und das gar nicht gesehen habe. Man zeigte mir dann auch, ich glaube es waren insgesamt 4 Fotos vom Joseph, als dieser bereits tot war. Dazu wurde mir von Herrn ABDULLA gesagt, dass das der Maik HAUKE war, der diese Verletzung (sic), die auf dem Foto angeblich zu sehen waren, ihm beigebracht hat und ich sollte mir die Fotos deshalb genau ansehen.“

Der Herr Kantelberg-Abdulla sagte aber zu mir, ich wüsste das und ich solle solange hier bleiben, bis ich das sage, was ich weiß. Er schrieb auch immer etwas dabei und ich habe aber nicht gesehen was er schrieb. Herr Abdulla gab mir auch etwas zu trinken and sowohl seine Frau, als auch er schrieben dann ungefähr eine halbe Stunde, wobei ich in dieser halben Stunde überhaupt nichts gesagt habe. Was geschrieben wurde habe ich nicht gesehen. Dieses gesamte Gespräch mit den Eltern, dauerte ungefähr anderthalb Stunden. Ich kann mich jetzt noch daran erinnern, dass ich an dem 13.06.1997 zusammen mit dem Maik Hauke im Bereich des Kiosk mich aufgehalten hatte und dass wir auf diesen Vorfall eigentlich erst aufmerksam geworden sind als das Krankenauto kam.“
