Satan was Cute…But I Wouldn’t Go So Far as to Use the Word Love

Last night I went to see the play “Say You Love Satan” at the Boston Center for the Arts. I was supposed to go with Matt, but the heat, humidity, and some bad reviews of the play caused Matt to bail out on me at the last minute. Fortunately my friend, Jason, was available and agreed to go.

He picked me up at 6PM and we headed to the South End. Come to think of it – Sunday was a very gay day for me. During the day, Matt and I watched some gay DVD’s: “The M.O of M.I.”, “Not Love, Just Frenzy” and “Chastity” (OK – the last one wasn’t really gay…but it starred Cher and was very campy). I also was wearing my Human Rights Campaign tank top, and Matt and I walked Dusty a few times (with her pink Coach collar – thanks to Chris)….a Shih Tzu being one of the gayest dog breeds.

Before the show, Jason and I went to the Boston Eagle for a drink since it’s across the street from the theatre (theatre being very gay to begin with). And all of this was located where? In the South End…the gayest part of Boston. Oh, did I mention he was playing the Avenue Q soundtrack in the car?

OK – I’ve totally been side-tracked…oh yeah – the play. It was cuter than I thought it would be. I never read any of the reviews….but Matt kept saying they were awful. Jason said he’d heard some similar things. Don’t get me wrong, the play wasn’t going to Broadway anytime soon (this is blackbox theatre, afterall), but I did get some good laughs and there was some eye candy. The basic premise of the play was that we have all had boyfriends (or girlfriends) from hell. But this poor guy officially had the boyfriend from Hell…the real Devil. It puts all of our past relationships to shame. I’m guessing the playwright may be a bit bitter about some former lovers.

It’s now Monday. The heat and humidity are supposed to break today and the rest of the week should be fabulous (and I don’t use the f-word lightly*). And we’re only four days away from a holiday weekend! That means those possessed demon mini-creatures (also known as children) will all be off the streets (and subways) and back in school during the day! YAY!

*(does anybody know from what movie I stole that line?)

You did have a very gay day…I’ve had a very gay week this week, so I can relate.

I wish there was more opportunity for live theater here. Unfortunately there are a few theater groups around here, but they just do the same shows everyone did in high school. Nothing new or edgy…
