Curve Balls

If you own a TV, computer, radio or if you have contact with people in your every day life, you probably know by now that the Red Sox beat the Yankees last night…which means they are participating in the play-offs for the first time in 18 years (and which they haven’t won in 86 years). Whoop-di-doo.

As expected, even though the game was in New York City and Boston had extra police detail on duty, idiots stormed the streets of the Fenway to celebrate the win. An occasional car was over-turned, a number of arrests were made and I heard a few small fires were started (probably in trash cans).

I’m so sick of (and embarrassed by) this. At least nobody died, like last year. Still, I think we need to take the parental role here and say if these boys can’t play nice, they can’t play at all. Actually, I have a better solution. Let’s give concentrated estrogen shots to all game attendees and fans before the games. True, their body hair may decrease, their hips may get more curvy and they may develop breats that will stick out further than their beer-bellies. But I think those side-effects would be worth it if it could reduce stupidity of the excitable male.

Somebody DID die. See here: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2004/10/21/college_student_dies_after_being_shot_by_bean_bag_bullet_near_fenway_last_night/

And it wasn’t even ’cause I strangled them for keeping me awake.

As mentioned above, there was one death. A girl was killed via a head injury from an apparent
bean bag bullet. The Red Sox are making history, but setting a car on fire seems extreme in showing
appreciation for their victory. I would ask that someone comment on what they know about post game
celebration in the 19080’s when the Sox made it into the World Series or the Celtics winning game seven
in the NBA championship. I don’t seem to remember these types of riots and am not certian why this trend
has started (as of last years Super Bowl) … particularly with college students.

“The Fans” react in such a strange way. However, it is not unique to our region. Happens all over the world. It is really very sad. …and as several mentioned above, a 23 year old girl was killed. …all because of a baseball game — and, we all know that, in the end, the lame team is going to loose the big one anyway.

We must be turning into European “football” fans. Regarding the comment above about the Sox losing the World Series, you might be right, but to make that kind of prediction only fuels the Curse and so, in turn, I must place a curse on you. I can’t tell you what it is, but let’s just say you will need to be careful in the presence of ducks.
