Waiting with Anticip……..ation

My new quilty pleasure is on tonight: The Biggest Loser. I can’t recall the network, nor the time. I just recall stumbling upon it after class last week. You know it’s a sad state of affairs when I crave offensive pseudo-reality television where morbidly obese people compete to win bags of lard. But with everything that’s been going on lately (details to follow in a future blog entry), I need the escapism. Besides, it makes me feel better about myself while I eat my pizzelle’s.

Yesterday was my niece’s surgery. Although she was released from the hospital last week so she could spend a week at home with the family before being re-admitted to the hospital for who-knows-how-long, she ended up having to return to the hospital early because she was getting sick again. It’s as if any time she’s not under 24 medical supervision, she gets worse. UGH.

But the surgery went well and by 7:30 PM she was in the recovery room…and is now in the Intensive Care Unit for observation (and apparently in lots of pain). Our best guess is that she’ll remain in the hospital for at least the next 10 days (maybe longer).

This is exactly why I simply can not believe in a “god”. How could such an all-powerful being allow such pain? I mean, if he’s so powerful, why are there so many sick people? Why do people have to suffer? Is it population control/survival of the fittest? Maybe. But why couldn’t the so-called god simply have people die (or not be born at all) without causing the pain and suffering? My niece is certanily not suffering for her “sins”.

OK – I’m off my soap-box. See how badly I need reality tv to get my mind off things?

    Hmm.

    *hugs* *hugs* *hugs*

    (redeemable at any future date)

I don’t believe in an interventionist god. I haven’t by any means reconciled the issue of why bad things happen to good people – or honestly, *any* people – but I try to believe that it’s not something any god is actively encouraging. I don’t know if the god I believe in wants to take that level of control in the universe. I guess my personal god is more of a creator, and then an inspiration to strength, than an everyday miracle worker. So that does make it easier.

I wish I did have a better answer, though. 🙁
