Winter Wonderland

I love the unpredictability of New England weather. When I packed up to go to the Cape on Thursday morning, the meteorologists indicated bright and sunny days on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After I’d arrived on Cape Cod, the meteorologists predicted a chance of some ocean-effect flurries over the Cape late Saturday night.

By Friday afternoon the meteorologists were predicting the ocean effect snows and then a coastal storm Sunday evening/Monday morning that could provide a dusting to 3 inches of snow. By Saturday morning, they were predicting 1-3 inches of ocean effect snow Saturday night and  heavy bands of snow showers all day Sunday.

Now it’s Sunday and it’s been snowing since I woke up this morning at 9AM. Now some stations are predicting 12-16 inches of snow by the time it ends Monday.

Personally, I love this stuff. I don’t own a car so the biggest hassle for me is backsplat (that inconvenience of snow and slush splattering up the back of my pant legs because of the way I walk). Otherwise, it’s a veritable winter wonderland! Here’s a pick taken from my living room at 11:30 p.m. tonight.

Though, this time around the pending snow storm did disrupt my Christmas. My parents were so freaked out at the prospect of snow that they drove me back to Boston on Christmas Day. We forfeiting Christmas dinner for the sake of safety and by 3PM, I was in my Boston apartment alone for the holiday. But I did have fun for the two days I was down there. Now I’m once again procrastinating on writing my paper.

Hey Karl, I love the snow too… and it sure is beautiful. You should have e-mailed me that you were home alone this holiday weekend. We were around Saturday night and Sunday!

Down here in Roslindale, we’ve got eight to ten inches on the ground and it really is lovely–especially since we got ploughs down the street so we can drive.

Sorry your Christmas with the family got cut short, but hope it was happy!

I’m so jealous, Karl. The weathermen predicted snow for us last week. And sure enough, on my drive to work Wednesday it started to snow…they were predicting about 6 inches.

In all it snowed for about 2 hours and then it was just really fucking cold for 3 days…but no real snow…

Lucky me – Moe and I had to drive back from NY in that snow last night – what a heck of a drive…If I still smoked – I would have been chain smoking!

But hey – it looks pretty – and now that I’m home – it sure beats that gray blahness that’s around without the snow.
