More Reasons Why People Hate Americans

So, I’m watching the CBS Morning News and they’re showing live footage of a moment of silence taking place in the United Kingdom in memory of the fatalities associated with the terrorist attacks a week ago today. The camera flipped from street scenes to train stations to government buildings -all showing somber Britons standing in silence.

Then the news anchor introduces a live reporter in London – standing on a street surrounded by people partaking of this moment of silence. And the idiot news reporter starts talking and reporting! Meanwhile, people are turning their heads at this stupid American disrupting their moment of silence.

What the hell is wrong with people from our country? I don’t blame the rest of the world for hating us. Not only is our leader an idiot, apparently, the residents aren’t much better.

And speaking of idiot Americans, I saw an advanced screening of the movie, “Happy Endings” last night. I really liked the movie, but the characters in the film were less than desirable. Without giving too much away, a sister has sex with her step-brother, then goes away for an abortion. Then, a woman has sex with a closeted gay man because she needs a free place to stay. She eventually also has sex with that man’s father and gets pregnant (not knowing who the father is: the gay guy or his dad). She has an abortion. There’s also some prostitution, illegal immigration, adultery, sperm donorship and some drug use. Oh, did I mention the crazy filmaker with the gun?

Still, I enjoyed the film (as I did the director’s first film: The Opposite of Sex). But if this movie ever gets played overseas, I’m sure it’s not going to help people’s impressions of us Americans!

Don’t get me started on Americans and their behavior overseas. Having been the actual victim of Americans who thought I was a native of <fill in the blank>, it’s not fun. I’ve also seen foreigners behaving badly here, but nothing so much by comparison.

You know what else won’t help general, broad views of Americans? Is Americans bashing each other and condoning public loathing of us as a whole.

It adds insult to serious injury.

Can’t it be chalked up to human nature, and the desire for self-promotion? Not that it makes it okay – that was rude and ignorant what the reporter did. But can it possibly be seen as an individual being obtuse and self important rather than an indicator that fanatical and anti-American sentiments are right on target?

Of course Americans behave badly, at home and away. So does everyone else. Speaking of foreigners behaving badly, say, hijacking airplanes and flying them into heavily populated landmark office buildings, based on the principle that the lives of infidels (this means you) have no worth – I don’t remember Europeans badmouthing Americans when we liberated Paris or stopped the Luftwaffe taking Great Britain.

Plenty of Americans , here and abroad, are polite and respectful, appreciative, and gracious. Just because this moronic reporter didn’t do the right thing is no reason to point the finger at our nation and accuse it as a whole of being in the wrong.

i think the moral of this story is: you have to be on your best behavior at all times, because if you f*ck up, its going to bite you on the ass in some way….so, how about that war?

I think that might be more of a media issue than unique to America.

I was really psyched about the new film from D. Roos, but I’ve not been hearing good things about it other than Lisa Kudrow is funny. I will see it, but I am thinking it is not up to par with Opposite of Sex. I am just all excited about the fact that Tropical Malady is finally here on a big screen!!!! Love that movie! I do want to see Wedding Crashers. …chut up.
