Catching Up

OH, I feel so loved once again. I hadn’t blogged for just a few days (okay, 5 days) and I’m getting comments and emails from people worrying about me. I do love this community we call blog.

Anyway, there really isn’t that much to post. Remember how last weekend I talked about how the weekend started off great (going out with Kirk) but ended rather crappy with my niece being in ths hospital? Well, this weekend was the reverse of that. The sore throat from last week left me with even less of a voice. I decided to take Friday off as a sick day to recuperate (also providing me with a 4 day weekend since Monday was a holiday).

I did absolutely nothing on Friday. In fact, I slept for nearly 12 hours Thursday night – waking up at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning. Truth be told, I took my two remaining Percocets from when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I know, I know – I shouldn’t do that. But they were prescribed, after all. And feeling sick, I just felt like I needed quality rest. What better way to ensure a good night’s sleep than with narcotics?

Well, it did the job because I was feeling well enough on Saturday to venture outside. I took a nice leisurely walk along the Charles River Esplanade, picked up some groceries at Trader Joe’s and took the subway back home. The weekend had such perfect weather, and the river/skyline were just so beautiful that this weekend epitomized why I love Boston so much. Simply glorious.

The next day, I went to the hospital to visit my sister-in-law and niece. Since I last posted, the feeding tube that my sister-in-law had installed had gotten infected and popped out! She was rushed the emergency room and threatened with emergency surgery. Fortunately, surgery wasn’t necessary but she was also admitted into the same hospital as my niece (but different sections). My niece to this day is still in Intensive Care (and, truth be told, not looking so good). My brother was also at the hospital so he and I did the rounds visiting my sister-in-law and then my niece, and then he and I went to lunch.

Later that afternoon I got together with my friend, Kevin, to walk along the Esplanade once again. As a suburbanite, he’d never been to the Esplanade. We also explored the Arnold Arboretum – climbing to the top of the big hill and enjoying the distant downtown view. I don’t think I can repeat enough how flawless this weekend’s weather was.

Anyway, all of that walking exhausted me (I was still recuperating, afterall) so that night I just plopped myself on the sofa, read magazines and watched TV.

On Monday (Labor Day), I got together with Rich and a new friend we both made, Ronnie. We ended up meeting up at Cambridgeside, having lunch at Cheesecake Factory (beats the food court) and then took a nice long walk along the Cambridge side of the Charles River.

All in all, the weekend that started off crappy got better as it went along. I don’t really have an excuse for not blogging except that I was lazy.

…and it felt good.

OH! And I booked my flight to Paris! I’m leaving in just under four weeks. EEK! I’m pretty excited about this trip as it is practically free! I’m using my frequent flyer miles to get there (so I only had to pay taxes/fee of $54.00). And I’ve got a free place to stay while I’m there – in an apartment in the center of the city overlooking the River Siene (on Ile Saint Louis….the island next to Notre Dame)! When apprehensively asking my bosses for the time off (especially after having already taken 15 vacation days this summer) they both responded with something along the lines of “you’d be a fool to pass up on this offer.”

So, I guess I should work on French comprehension, huh? I’ve forgotten nearly everything I learned when I took the class two years ago. At least I kept the books and tapes.

Ile Saint Louis is just magical and, while a bit pricy, some excellent restaurants are right there. Wish I were going with you!

What the? When did you take French lessons? Further, how do you score a free place to stay ? Holy crap. You should take someone who speaks french, hem hemm. Je voudrais le livre. Je viens de tuer le lapin. Je ne sais pas. Je ne comprends pas. Je suis fromage. (Whoops.) And so forth. 🙂

That is so crappy about Heather & Heidi. Heidi must be a stick figure by now. I feel so bad for Paul and Nick & … Nick &… goddammit, I know there’s another one. Well I feel bad for them. xo
