The Case of the Incredibly Shrinking Head
What a day yesterday was. I woke up to sunny skies and reasonable temperatures – prompting me to wear jeans and thin long sleeve shirt to work. By lunch time around 1:00 PM, it was feeling humid outside (to wimpy ole’ me) and warm. I was regretting my clothing selection.
Then the wind started picking up. People were getting violently attacked all around me. By acorns, that is. It’s always fun until somebody loses and eye…and I suspect New England emergency rooms must have had their fill yesterday. Then the rains started. Wind-driven heavy bands of rain rendering umbrellas useless.
By the time I left work, the temperature had dropped into the mid 50’s. Once again, I regretted by fashion choice for the day and wished I had brought a light jacket.
But then the real fun began! I attended my first therapy session (hence the title to today’s blog…get it?). Anyway, he’s located near Central Square in an old Victorian House. For a first session, it went well. Basically, I just re-hashed the drama that’s been going on over the course of the past 12 months and told him what type of therapist I wanted. I’m looking for a guy who will listen, probe, guide the direction of conversation and ultimately provide advise. I’ve only been to therapy a few times in my life but do know that I’ve had the best results with ones that ultimately advised…so many just listened.
And listening is helpful. I find it very therapeutic to vent. Hell, I’ve been doing it to my friends for ages, and even this blog has been a beneficial release for me. But in the end, I think I need guidance as well. Don’t worry – I’m not going to go all Danny Bonaduce on your ass and chronicle my therapy progress on here for the world to see. But hopefully you’ll notice a more upbeat Snarl in the coming weeks/months.

Ah, therapy. I do love it so. Glad your first session went well…I’m always afraid that they’re going to tell me I’m sociopathic or schizophrenic or something.
There are different approaches to therapy. If an advisors works for you, great! We’ll have 8 hours on the plan to discuss our therapy sessions!

Yay therapy! Everyone could use it. What I found is that the best therapist operates somewhere between listening & advising. It’s like they prompt you to realize what you probably already know. I felt like that — like Dorothy realizing she knew the answer all along!
First of all, you’ve been fine the past few months. Considering what you’ve been going through, you’ve not dragged anyone down . . . and secondly, eyes out by acorns . . . sounds rather gruesome . . . and thirdly, I LOVE the 50s we had yesterday; bring it on! . . . and lastly, what’s a Victorial House; is that like a Georgial or Edwardial house?

All the voices in my head tell me therapy is a good thing.
Therapy is crucial. The world would be a better place if every human could go to 6 mos of therapy every 3 years. …A much better place. And, you’ve certainly been under enough stress these past several months!
