Fin de Semana

This week has flown by. It seems like just yesterday I met up with Mike in Dorchester for dinner and a movie. And it looks like I’ll be in Brookline once again, this time for dinner with Sven. For some reason, he wants to get together for dinner in Brookline. I’m not sure how he came up with the destination. And when I questioned him on it, he called me an anti-semite.

So, Brookline – here I come. Maybe we’ll got to Zaftig’s – that was pretty good last week.

I’m also supposed to get together with Mike tomorrow night. I suspet we’ll be staying in since it looks like we’re to be hit with our first big snow storm of the season (the meteorologists were even throwing the word blizzard around…with totals of 12-18 inches of snow expected). YAY! I love storms.

I’ll also be visiting my sister-in-law at the hospital. She’s doing much better after he stroke and should be released on Monday. Finally! My brother and their two kids have been missing her.

And, in keeping in tradition with the rest of this week…here is yet another one of those “too much information about myself” things that seem to be floating around the blog world the past few weeks.

Four jobs I’ve had (from oldest to newest):
1: Orange Julius in the Cape Cod Mall. This was my high school job.I had it all four years plus the summer after freshman year of college. I actually have really good memories of that place.
2. Record Town at Copley Place in Boston. This was one of my college jobs and also the place I mentioned earlier in the week where I was seduced by my boss and them promoted.
3. Stride Rite. This started off as a co-op job in college designing stores for them. I ended up staying on for two years working in their corporate headquarters and ultimately designing over 60 stores worldwide. I suspect that none of my work exists anymore since they’ve surely been remodeled in the past 14 years.
4. Harvard Law School (my current job). I’ve been here for nearly 5 1/2 years and am currently the Administrative Director for a research progam. I love it.

Four places I’ve lived:
1. Osterville (Cape Cod), Massachusetts. This is my childhood home from birth through 18 years of age.
2. Boston, Massachusetts. I’ve lived in nearly every downtown neighborhood of this city: Fenway, Back Bay, South End, downtown, West End, North End. I’m currently in the North End and enjoy this neighborhood the best.
3. San Francisco, California. Matt and I moved out there back in 1997 and we lasted a whole 6 months. Ironically, we moved back because he didn’t care for it (though, I had issues, too) yet he is the one who moved back to the city and now loves it.
4 Salem, Massachusetts. Matt and I moved here – just 16 miles north of Boston – to pay less rent and eventually afford to buy a condo. The plan worked and we purchased our first condo there. I do miss it there…and the people…but not the commute.

Four places I have been on Vacation:
1. Provincetown, MA. I suppose it’s hard to call this a vacation since it’s on Cape Cod…and I was raised on Cape Cod. But I do love going here.
2. Sante Fe and Taos, New Mexico. What a beautiful part of the country!
3. Paris, France. I needed this trip after a hellish few years and can’t wait to go back.
4. Montreal, Quebec. I have great memories of this city and used to go every year for Christmas with Matt. It seems like every afternoon there would be a snow flurry that coated everything in a beautiful layer of white. I’ve also been in September when it’s plush and green. I love it there.

Four favorite foods:
1. Cream-cheese brownies (not necessarily the ones at Harvard, but Rosie’s Bakery!)
2. brocolli (can’t get enough)

3.high quality gummi-bears (not the CVS brand, but the German ones…they can’t be too soft, but not “stale, either)
4. chicken (I never really thought about my preference for it…but I do seem to eat a lot of it)

Four TV shows I like to watch:
1. Strangers with Candy (I hate this this went off the air…and now the movie deal is in limbo…I’m glad I have the DVD’s)
2. Will and Grace (yeah, they’ve jumped the shark, but the middle seasons were quite good)
3. Daily Show (I wish the next-day repeat at 7PM was still on at 7PM…but it’s been bumped to 8PM so I always miss it)
4. My Name is Earl (the best new show this year…and Jason Lee is cute as white-trash)

Four albums i can’t live without:
1. The Go-Go’s, Return to the Valley of the Go-Go’s (the soundtrack to my youth)
2. Johnny Cash, American IV: The Man Comes Around (great final album)
3. Natlie Merchant, Tigerlily (as Matt would say….the Tapestry of the 90’s)
4. Janis Joplin, Pearl (love her)

Four Movies I can watch over and over:
1. Beautiful Thing (such a sweet little love story that it’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face in the final scene…unless your a homophobe)
2. Sordid Lives (hilarious story about a Texas trash family and their, well, sordid lives)
3. Pillow Talk (camp classic! How can you not love this movie?)
4. Annie Hall (my favorite Woody Allen film)

Four sites I visit daily:
1. My own (so I can update it)
2. Architectural Boston (A site devoted to curent, and future development and urban planning in Boston)
3. Boston Globe (just to get the local stories)
4. Matt’s Bit of Space (even though we’ve broken up, I still check in to see what he’s up to).

Four places I’d rather be:
1. Sleeping or showering (my two favorite things in the world…and both area activities I don’t mind doing alone or with company)
2. Paris, France in the fall.
3. Manhattan in the fall.
4. Provinctown in the summer…any time. Herring Cove during the day, Commercial Street by night.

Hmm. What is this with lists of four? Is that what life has turned into? Did I miss something? If I don’t tell you everything in fours, will that mean I’m out of it? If I don’t tell you everything in fours, will that mean I’m out of it? If I don’t tell you everything in fours, will that mean I’m out of it? If I don’t tell you everything in fours, will that mean I’m out of it? 🙂

Have you check out Ethan Reynolds site? bratboyschool.com… You know he’s the guy they decided to put on the Instinct cover after your pictures were found to be missing……..
Oh, and I popped over to Matts blog the other day just because I haven’t in such a long time.
He looks good! It looks like he is headed in a positive direction which I know you appreciate.

Thanks for mentioning “Tigerlily” by Natalie Merchant. You’d think I’d have downloaded it by now since I lived in Jamestown, N.Y. for a number of years and all you ever heard were Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs songs on the radio there.

I used to hang out at Record Town at Copley back in my DECcie days, ’87-’90 – did you work there then?

Yah. You like storms because you don’t have to shovel or negotiate slippery roads in your three ton killing machine while you schlepp your offspring around, dodging the drunk and incompetent morons who are surely aiming for you. Harrumph. Piss off, snow, I say. Rainstorms, ok, I can cope with those. But the snow – effing enough already. Paf.

Wow! A blizzard! I can’t say I miss those. It has been sunny and warm here all week. Am sitting in Sweet Inspirations watching the pretty boys playing in the sun. …while i have been looking for work and playing on my blog. Hmmmmmmm….

Am seeing a friend give a reading tonight! Remember his book, Gutterboys? We read it in Ptown several years back.
