Hafez’s falcons

From the Nightingale in the garden, ask the news.  for I
Hear his lament that forth from the cage comes
Friends!  The true Beloved desires the prey of Hafez’s heart:
For the prey of a little fly, a great falcon comes.

O royal falcon of keen vision, perched in Heaven’s tree,
your nest is not this corner filled with suffering.
They whistle to recall you to the battlements of heaven.
I don’t understand what has ensnared you here.

What sugar there is in this town, that the Falcons of the Way
became satisfied with the station of a mere fly
