China’s booming Internet users hits milestone

ø

It was only a matter of time before China’s PC sales surpassed those of the U.S. While China experienced a 14% growth in the PC market compared to last year, the world’s largest country has also reached twice as many Internet users as the U.S. According to the World Bank, China’s Internet users as a percentage of population exploded from 10% (2006) to 28.8% (2009)— More than double in a mere 3-year period.

Mainland China has roughly 485 million Internet users, yet a lower than average Internet penetration when compared to other first-world nations. With a booming younger Chinese generation actively playing online games and browsing websites, one can only assume that the country’s interest in increasing its Internet infrastructure may result in a billion or so Internet users over the next few years.
